About the Event

Vietnam Wind Power (VWP) is an official industry event in Vietnam organized by the Global Wind Energy Council (GWEC) since 2018. It provides a platform for the government and the industry to discuss pressing issues around the development of wind energy in Vietnam.

With the continued support from various embassies, government agencies and the industry, VWP has grown and is well-received by various key stakeholders in the wind industry. In 2021, we were joined by 600+ online and physical attendees despite the challenging situation of Covid-19. This year, Vietnam Wind Power 2022 will be fully physical, where international, local speakers and delegations can meet and connect face to face in Hanoi.

Given Vietnam’s commitment to Net Zero by 2050 and a highly ambitious wind target in the latest draft Power Development Plan VIII PDP 8 (PDP8), VWP2022 will provide a great opportunity for the wind industry to meet, collaborate and identify opportunities and solutions to accelerate the deployment of wind energy in Vietnam. The conference will continue to explore key questions such as the role of wind power in global energy transition and in Vietnam’s future energy mix, an alternative mechanism to deploy onshore wind and the route to market strategy for offshore wind.

Day 2 Programme

09:00 – 10:30 FINANCE & LEGAL FORUM

The last couple of years has seen a number of M&A deals in the wind sector in Vietnam. This was primarily driven by the fact that the tariff regime in Vietnam had expired. A marriage of convenience was formed between local developers who didn’t have funds to develop and construct projects and investors who had the funds enabling them to enter Vietnam which has huge wind potential and capitalize on the attractive tariff. This session will cover criteria adopted for acquisitions, the risk associated with it and how to mitigate those risks. Additionally, it will also delve into the impact of how such M&A deals will have in the future of wind energy landscape of Vietnam.
